CATALYST TRAINING SERVICES Inc.

Who We Are

Catalyst Training Services is an Edmonton-based training consultancy that conducts educational mental health seminars across Canada.

We are dedicated to equipping participants with the skills, knowledge and tools required to become confident allies and capable support systems to anyone who may be struggling with mental illness.

Additionally, when we aren’t conducting training sessions, we’re constantly working to raise awareness of mental health and addictions. We want to ensure the voices of people living with these conditions are heard and that their needs are considered when critical decisions are made.

Edmonton Mental Health Training

How We Do It

Transforming Communities

Transforming Communities

Transforming Communities

We know that being part of a greater community can have a significant impact on mental health. We help people strengthen their sense of purpose and belonging, so they can both contribute to and rely upon their communities and greater networks.

Ending Stigma

Transforming Communities

Transforming Communities

In Canada, 60 per cent of people with a mental health problem or illness won’t seek help for fear of being labelled. We help our participants overcome stigma by identifying what mental health discrimination looks like and teaching them the best steps for combatting it.

Creating Hope

Transforming Communities

Creating Hope

Hope is an integral part of mental health and addiction recovery. Hope is the belief that something better will come. It is what motivates us to push forward. Thus, teaching others how to inspire hope—both within themselves and others—is a core component of the work we do.

Who We Serve

Our goal is to provide business and community leaders (as well as their team members) with an eye-opening experience that provides the accurate knowledge and in-depth understanding they’ll need to bring about real, tangible change.

Our Founder and Lead Trainer, Jenan Nasserdeen, has travelled across the country delivering high-impact training sessions to interested corporate and organizational clients. She doesn’t let a little jetlag hold her back!

Potential corporate clients can choose between a variety of sessions,  depending on their unique circumstances and training objectives.

Or, if they require a more personalized solution, we can put together custom modules that are relevant and responsive to their needs.

Also, on occasion, we host community-based training sessions that are open to the general public. These sessions are ideal for individuals who want to improve their general ability to recognize, respond to, and support those struggling with mental illness and addiction.

We encourage anyone interested in attending a community session to subscribe to our e-newsletter (sign-up form at the bottom of this page). It’s the best way to stay informed about upcoming events!

Looking to Connect With Mental Health Supports?

Every month we list an affordable, community resource we trust. These supports are ideal for individuals who are looking to connect with professional mental health care providers.

Why Mental Health Training Matters

To improve the way individuals, businesses, communities, and societies address mental illness and addiction, we must all be aware of mental health stigma and its implications.

We must also have an in-depth understanding of how mental illness and addiction affect not just the individual who is living with the condition, but their greater social networks as well.

These staggering statistics highlight the adverse consequences of stigma and inadequate access to mental health treatments and supports:

  • Each week, 500,000 Canadians are unable to work due to mental illness. (Source)

  • People with mental illness and addictions are more likely to die prematurely. On average, having a mental illness or addiction cuts between 10-20 years off a person’s life span. (Source)

  • The total cost from mental health problems to the Canadian economy exceeds $50 billion annually. (Source)

  • The cumulative cost of providing treatment, care, and support services over the next 30 years in Canada is expected to exceed $2.5 trillion in current dollars. (Source)

  • Only one-third of Canadians living with a mental illness or addiction will seek support due to stigma and treatments being insufficiently available. (Source)

These figures showcase the importance of early detection and the absolute necessity of sufficient, affordable, and comprehensive mental health training and supports.

They also cast light on the need for well-informed, proactive mental health advocacy.
